Bring on the Taxes, Bring on the Stress
So as you all know it is tax season. One season even more dreaded than winter. Running around finding paper work after you made a new years resolution to keep all paper work in one place. You've got one month to get it all together and file not to add family, work and social life. This can get you stressed out. I'll let you know how chiropractic can help alleviate the bad stress.
There are two types of stress: good stress and bad stress or Eustress and Distress.
Eustress or the good type of stress is the type of stress you experience right before you have the need to exert physical force. Eustress prepares the muscles, heart, and mind for the strength needed for whatever is about to occur. Eustress can also help with creativity, before partaking in athletic endeavor and during fight or flight. These are all great things.
Then we have Distress or the bad stress. This is one of the types of stress that the mind and body undergoes when the normal routine is constantly adjusted and altered. The mind is not comfortable with this routine, and craves the familiarity of a common routine. There are actually two types of distress: acute stress and chronic stress.Within negative stress there are acute stress, chronic stress, hyperstress, hypostress and several other.
Okay, besides yoga and relaxation, chiropractic can help reduce or remove the pain associated with stress. Have you ever heard someone say "I carry my stress in my shoulders" or" In my lower back"? That is because one effect of chronic stress is prolonged muscle tension and contraction. This muscle tension creates uneven pressures on the bony structures of the body, often leading to the misalignment of the spinal column, known as Subluxations. ( Nerve,Muscle, Inflammation, Joint Misalignment and or Degeneration)
Chronic stress also leads to nerve irritation. The adjustments of a chiropractor release muscle tension, and that helps the body return to a more balanced, relaxed state. Adjustments also reduce spinal nerve irritation, and improve blood circulation. These changes may be enough, in many cases, to convince the brain to turn off the fight or flight response, beginning the process of healing. A healthy and balanced spine is one key to effectively managing stress.
While as a chiropractor I can not get rid of the stress you experience at work or at home, the chiropractic adjustments I would administer can help you develop healthy responses to stress, reducing potential physical damage.
